Angeleno Valley History
Our building was built as the first in the San Fernando Valley designed to be a funeral home…in 1929. In 1953 the building was expanded by the late JT Oswald. From 1929-1997 various funeral home owners operated from this facility…under various names…and it became vacant beginning in the early 1990’s.
In 1997 the building was purchased by William Hawkins to launch a complete start-up funeral company. However, before opening, the building was comprehensively-completely re-done as it had fallen into poor disrepair for many years. The newly renovated Angeleno Valley Mortuary opened its doors in November 1997 with a passion for excellence in personalized compassionate service and has since been a place of comfort to thousands of families as it and our associates have “cared for the dead while serving the living”.
By 2004 the hallmark of excellence in client family service had grown greatly (stretching the buildings capacity) which gave birth to adding to the “Angeleno Family” of mortuaries with opening its sister location in Van Nuys…Angeleno Mortuary, and then ultimately growing to 9 locations and its own crematory which has informally been called “the Angeleno Group” the within Los Angeles, Ventura and San Bernardino Counties. William Hawkins remains actively involved today.
